I experienced George Town Festival 2011 : Tapestry of Cultures 2 years ago. I saw, heard, felt, smelt and tasted it as beyond spectacular! A flamboyant display of rich diversities that this cultural melting pot in Southeast Asia is known for. I was simply blown away by that 2011 holiday and I believe this year, it just got better! I haven’t travelled the world but where else can you find streets showcasing arts, heritage, culture, traditions, food, religions, performances and whatnot, mostly for FREE and readily accessible to public all at the same time?
This year, it extends from 7th June to 7th July. And if that doesn’t sound grand fiesta to you, you should find out more details…
Penang is famous for local delicacies, good getaway choice for Singapore family, what else you can look out for in Penang, that's George Town Festival… It's coming…

Maybe you think I'm a bit crazy when I present you with this saying: It is important to get to know a country/destination's culture and people well from their staple food. An absolute true color, without modification, only the most basic needs can advise you purely!
Fried rice is a staple food of many cuisines and cultures, prized for its versatility and economy. Although fried rice has Chinese roots, American, Cuban, Indonesian and Hawaiian versions are popular today. Fried rice is a great way to use up leftover rice, vegetables, meats, condiments and even fruit.
American fried rice is not actually an American invention at all - this dish of hot dogs, fried chicken, eggs, rice and ketchup was a Thai creation served to American soldiers during the Vietnam war. It is quite similar to Nasi Goreng, with ketchup instead of kecap manis. Hawaiian fried rice, incorporating rice, peas and carrots and cubed Spam, might be considered a more "American" invention but the presence of Spam makes it uniquely Hawaiian.
Thai Fried Rice with Chicken, 'Khao Pad Namprik Pao Sai Kai'. It's best to use day-old rice that's been cooked and sitting at room temperature (just leave it in the rice cooker for best results). Adding on roasted chile paste which gives a perfect, authentic flavor which is just a tad spicy.
If you have been to the U.S and Thailand, have you ever releasized the differences if you at least had a meal with fried rice?
